Fefe Says…

10 Things I Hate About You

Posted in Television by Felicia on May 6, 2010

ABC Family is one of the best channels on my television.  It has re-runs of some of my old favorites—like Gilmore Girls and What I Like About You—while still introducing me to the dramatic world of the Greek life and also the inner workings of the Stratford household in my current obsession, 10 Things I Hate About You.

Since this is a television sitcom, it’s strayed far from the 90’s movie plot line that everyone is so familiar with.  Even so, I think the writers have done an excellent job with developing a show that stays true to those characters.

Kat (Lindsay Shaw) is my favorite sister—she has the kind of witty comebacks that I aim for, with a tough exterior and sweet heart.  She has a wonderful relationship with her father, despite his overbearing ways and strict rules.

Kat’s sister Bianca (Meaghan Martin) is the exact opposite of her sister—and she often lets us know it.  Dying to fit in with the popular crowd, Bianca will do anything to fit in—even if it means cozying up to Chastity—the school’s Queen Bee.  Once she starts dating Joey, Chastity’s ex-boyfriend, things start to get messy and that’s when I start to love this show even more.

And what would the show be without a Patrick Verona?  Patrick (Ethan Peck) is the kind of mysterious bad boy-type that every girl dates at least once in her lifetime.  He’s cute, intriguing, and is the perfect match for Kat.  Watching their relationship unfold is one of my favorite parts of the show.

And just like all my favorite television shows, it gets the boot whenever I start getting seriously addicted.  Read here about it’s cancellation.  I’m going to go curl up with a box of tissues now.

I love Greek, but I haven’t been able to get into this show. I was never a fan of the movie it is based on. I do, however, love Taming the Shrew, which it’s all based off of.
