Fefe Says…

Book Review: Something Like Fate

Posted in Books by Felicia on May 10, 2010

Something Like Fate, by Susane Colasanti is a perfect addition to those hot summer days at the beach. The book follows Lani and Erin, two best friends that are bonded together for life.  When Erin starts seeing Jason, Lani begins to develop a deep connection with him—the kind that she’s never felt before.  She’s not the kind of friend to boyfriend-steal and why would she?  That would be violating the girl code that has been in effect since forever

But when Erin goes away for the summer, Lani’s free to hang out with Jason whenever she wants.  Even if she wants their relationship to go further, he’s the one guy that’s off limits.  Or is he?

Something Like Fate was a fast and enjoyable read.  The novel’s protagonist, Lani, is a character that many girls will be able to relate to.  She’s smart, cares about the environment, and believes strongly in the power of fate.  The theme of fate runs deep throughout the course of the novel and is ever-present in Lani’s growing relationship with Jason.

There are some swoon-worthy scenes sprinkled throughout the book coupled with a few doses of some serious issues.  Something Like Fate will make you think about the bonds you have with the people you love and the role they play in your future relationships.

Fans of Colasanti’s will appreciate and devour her new novel. I mean, the cover does have a purple couch, Strawberry ice cream, and fun colors.  Did I mention the ice cream?
